Aruba Here We Come! 🇦🇼

Jun 20, 2024

My dad and I started a tradition many years ago where we go on a father-daughter trip at least once every two years. Our sole destination used to be Suriname to visit family. However, due to the challenges of international travel during the pandemic, we had to seek out alternative locations for our excursions. This adjustment enabled us to explore new destinations within the United States, given the numerous drivable options from Pennsylvania. Previous trips have taken us to Kinsale, VA, and Pensacola, FL. Keep an eye out for upcoming blog posts detailing our adventures.

We had been through Aruba many times, as it’s the intermediate stop for us when we travel to and from Suriname. Back in early 2020, we had to stay overnight on the island due to a flight scheduling mishap. That 12 hours on the island was enough to put Aruba at the top of my must-visit list. Everything about Aruba just felt like home. It also helps that its residents speak Dutch, with some also speaking Surinamese. Having English as a language option is also a bonus.

Back to the adventure at hand. We both had been itching to go somewhere outside of the US for a couple years now, but Suriname just wasn’t in the cards due to the political situation in the country. After some deliberation, we decided on visiting Aruba.

My dad was also celebrating a birthday milestone, so we figured what better way to spend it than going on an island adventure. I also invited several of his siblings to join us from Suriname and The Netherlands. In total there will be five of us on this trip.

We will be staying for seventeen days and taking in as much of the island life as possible while down there. Some ideas for activities include:

  • Arikok National Park
  • Submarine Adventure
  • Finding and trying every Surinamese restaurant
  • Hitting up local markets
  • Beach days
  • Lazy days at our AirBnb, at the pool

Stay tuned for all the deets of our family adventures!
