A Taste of Home 🇸🇷
It’s our first full day on the island, and of course we need to eat. Before leaving for Aruba I had joined a couple of Facebook pages centering around traveling to Aruba. I was interested in discovering any Surinamese restaurants on the island so I asked the members for a few suggestions. One of the most popular suggestions was Cafe Yanti, an Indonesian/Surinamese restaurant.
We arrived at the restaurant shortly after lunchtime. One thing to mention was that parking was a bit tedious. The on-site parking was limited, which led to my dad having some anxiety during our meal as he was worried another patron would damage our rental car (spoiler: the car was fine).
Once arriving inside, we were able to sit down immediately. We were presented with a menu full of familiar Surinamese household staples, from pom to bruine bonen and roti. I’m sure you’d be satisfied ordering anything off of the menu.
Ultimately I ended up ordering the Pom Kip with Nasi, which also came with a side of Bakabana and Kauseband. My dad ordered the large Sate plate with Bami, which also came with a side of Bakabana and Potato Sambel. The plates (yes I said PLATES) arrived at the table and I was awestruck!

Every ounce of our meal was delicious and transported me right back to Suriname! This was comfort food to the max!
Not be overshadowed by the flavor, the portions were enormous, but knowing the Surinamese kitchen, I shouldn’t have been surprised. While there we ordered an extra portion of Pom with Moksi Alesi to bring home for dinner, along with the leftovers of our main meals.
Final verdict: I would 100% try this place again, and likely will before we leave Aruba!
