A Not-so Baby Beach 🏖️
One activity one must partake in when on an island is at least one trip to a beach. Up until now we haven’t properly visited a beach. While in Oranjestad last week, we walked along the water, but I wouldn’t classify that as “going to the beach.”
Today my dad and uncles were all in on watching the two Euros soccer matches being played. However, my aunt and I wanted no part in sitting inside all day. So we decided on a whim to take a trip down to Baby Beach.
Baby Beach is a short 30 minute drive south of Oranjestad, near San Nicolas. It’s a pretty quiet beach, compared to some of the more tourist-rich beaches on the northern part of the island.
We arrived at the beach around 1pm, admittedly not the best time considering the temperature was in the upper 90s F and shade trees were few and far between. Luckily there was a breeze blowing so the heat wasn’t too bad. The crowd wasn’t too terrible either. If we had planned on staying for an extended period of time, we could’ve easily rented a tent and found an unoccupied area of sand to call our own. However, this trip was mostly for walking around and exploring what the beach and surrounding areas had to offer. We’re hoping to come back later in the week with everyone to truly enjoy a beach day.
Walking along the beach was so relaxing. We both wore water shoes so we could walk in the water without any issues. Even though it was hot outside, the water temperature was PERFECT! My biggest regret was not bringing my bathing suit, so I could enjoy the water even more.
Baby Beach is essentially one giant circular cove, so we were able to walk around the majority of the circle to take in different vantage points.

Today there also happened to be a hurricane, Beryl, brewing in the Caribbean Sea, so we got to witness some larger than normal waves crashing against the rocky shores. Luckily Aruba is outside of the hurricane belt, so we aren’t expected to get any crazy weather outside of some wind and light rain.
All in all we had a really fun time hanging out at Baby Beach. Fun fact: this was my first official visit to a beach. Back in 2010, I was in Gulf Port, Mississippi for fall break with some fellow students from my university. We stayed at a research center that was along the Gulf of Mexico. The first night we all walked to the “beach” (it was more sand than actual beach). So that was my first time putting my feet in the sand, but I didn’t classify that as a beach trip.
